Tens of thousands of Irish people are flocking to beaches around the country with many ditching their swim wear and letting it all hang out. Our Euro cousins have been topless tanning for years and with Ireland now having its own official nudist beach in Dublin many sun-worshippers will free the nipple for summer. If you're sick of unsightly strap marks and are feeling brave enough to strip off then there are plenty of spots in Ireland where it's safe to do so. Last April Hawk Cliff was awarded nudist status after the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council agreed to display signs warning people of nude sunbathers.
Social nudity is the nude appearance of the human body in relatively public settings not restricted by gender. This occurs both in public spaces and on commercial property , such as at a naturist resort. Some isolated indigenous nudity still exists in the tropics , though this way of life is highly endangered, as is male nude swimming in public, which used to be very commonplace in Western civilization. Modern European-style naturism began around the turn of the 20th century in British India and Northern Germany , and it was later adopted in America as well.
My extended family has its own nudist contingent — something we always regarded as an oddity when I was growing up, until I actually grew up and realised it was perfectly normal. So when we were looking around for things to do on our recent visit to Swanage, in Dorset, it seemed like an obvious choice. The entire beach is two and a half miles long, but the nudist bit takes up less than half of that. You also have to walk to it — the car park is some distance from the naturist section, which is clearly marked by signs. When we eventually arrive, the place is quiet.
